About Volume Shader
Volume Shader provides small, transparent browser GPU tools for people who want a quick performance or compatibility check without installing an application.
Why this project exists
Browser graphics tests often use different shaders and scoring rules, which makes cross-site comparisons confusing. This project provides one controlled local workload with direct measurements and clear comparison limits.
What the tools do
- Preload a real still WebGL mushroom frame after the home page opens (no continuous scoring).
- Offer full-quality interactive preview on hover/drag with slow auto-spin until the user presses Start.
- Start a timed scored run with live FPS, frame time, Stop, full-screen, safety, export, and fair-comparison guidance.
- Check WebGL support and browser graphics limits without starting a sustained stress test.
- Avoid adding a score upload, account, or leaderboard; traffic and interaction analytics remain separate from benchmark reporting.
What the tools do not do
The volume shader test is not a complete hardware certification, a replacement for a native benchmark suite, or proof that a device is genuine. Its score describes only this renderer under the current browser and viewport conditions.
How it works
The guide is statically delivered. After open, the home tool may compile the local shader once and hold a still real frame. Hover or drag runs the same full-quality scene without scoring; Start begins the timed scored loop; Stop ends scoring, freezes continuous work again, and opens an in-memory session report. The separate WebGL capability checker also remains local client-side code.
Code provenance
Related VSBM source is publicly viewable, but the repositories checked do not declare a license granting commercial copying rights. The competitor site also prohibits reverse engineering in its terms. This benchmark therefore uses an independently implemented renderer rather than copied source.
